Low cost airline Monarch is set to introduce daily flights to Barcelona from Birmingham from May 1, currently the carrier is operating flights from four-times-a-week.
The airline said that the Barcelona route is a very popular choice with passengers from Birmingham since its introduction in July last year and the airline has planned to increase the number of flights to Barcelona to give customers greater seat flexibility.
Kevin George, Monarch Airlines’ Managing Director, said that the airline is pleased to increase the frequency of this popular route from Birmingham airport. It offers customers in the West Midlands even good options on the length of their stay in Barcelona.
William Pearson, Aviation Development Director at Birmingham Airport, said that boosting the frequency of the Barcelona flight is great news as it will open up a greater option to those planning a trip to this mesmerising destination, which combines both beach and city. He lauded Monarch’s move to increase the need for daily services from Birmingham.
The move provides an impetus to the airport and follows the declaration from Air Malta that it is to reintroduce charter flights from Birmingham Airport this summer.
The Maltese airline is scheduled to operate two weekly charter flights to and from Birmingham every Tuesday and Friday between May and October.
